For the launch of the IOC's Olympic AI Agenda, we designed the stage set inside the Lee Valley VeloPark, home of the London 2012 Velodrome, giving a forward-looking announcement a home with real Olympic heritage behind it. A sculptural, see-through framework of open cubes rises above the stage at different heights, each one carrying a graphic panel in the bold, blocky colours of the Olympic rings, so the structure reads as striking set design from every seat in the house and every camera angle. Built entirely from 100% recycled materials, the design is as sustainable as it is contemporary, its light, transparent construction echoing the same forward-thinking spirit as the AI agenda itself.
Timber decking and clean geometric steps ground the stage itself, while a long striped backdrop in the same rings palette runs the full width behind the speakers, tying the whole space together without ever competing with them. It's a set designed to feel credible and contemporary in equal measure, serious enough for the significance of the announcement, playful enough to hint at where the Olympic movement is headed next, and sustainable in a way that mirrors the ultra-contemporary graphics and content driving the event.
Delivered for an audience of IOC members, partners and press, the set gave the Olympic AI Agenda launch a stage as considered and forward-facing as the agenda it was there to introduce.
