Chinese Sports Personality of the Year, CCTV

For CCTV's Chinese Sports Personality of the Year, we designed a set on a genuinely different scale, this production was quite literally on another level. At its centre sits a towering, multilayered LED drum, rings of screen rising one on top of the other and elevating through the show, wrapped in shifting star fields, colour washes and content that can transform the whole structure in moments, from a glittering night sky to a blaze of red and gold.

Above it all, a vast suspended ring of light traces a waveform overhead, echoing the energy of the broadcast and giving the arena a focal point that works as well from the furthest seat as it does on camera. A long red carpet runway cuts straight through the packed audience to the stage, turning every arrival into a moment, while curved LED walls flank the space, carrying content and atmosphere the whole way round.

It's a set built to match the ambition of the production team behind it: immense in scale, precise in its engineering, and designed to give China's biggest sporting stars a stage worthy of the honour.
